ABOUT DR. ALI

"A stitch in time may save nine."

-old English proverb

Our bodies are a marvel. Whilst tolerating our self-inflicted neglect and abuse, we eventually start to receive messages from within, cries for help and a longing for adjustments in our lifestyles. As the old English proverb goes, "a stitch in time may save nine,' if we begin to take control and manage our lifestyles, one habit at a time and in moderation, we can prevent our body from potentially breaking down completely and have the opportunity to live a life that is not only tolerable, but enjoyable.

These small stitches, or changes, will require effort, hard work, and devotion. And once accomplished, the results are rewarding in ways that we can not even imagine.

I am more than willing to accompany you on a journey of self-discovery, provide you with knowledge, understanding and motivation. I will teach you how to listen to your body, help you to overcome your struggles, not only to make your life more optimal, but also more pleasurable.

Together, we can discover the hidden puzzle pieces, figure out how to connect them, and understand the full picture of your health and act upon the factors that we can control. We may need to look at comprehensive testing, or choose therapies that assist and optimize the body to achieve its full potential. Most importantly, remembering that if we are "moderate in habits" we can surely be on the road to success. Let's figure out how to make you feel like yourself again.

MISSION

My Journey and Healing Services

I completed my studies at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. Prior to that, I graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and was involved in research for aging and mental health. I accomplished additional training in injection therapy for pain management, and allergy treatment. I also gained exposure to elderly care, palliative cancer care and HIV care through a number of different clinical facilities including the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, Sherbourne HIV Health Clinic, Princess Margaret Hospital and a francophone elderly community care centre.

Patients seeing me can expect a thorough review of their diet and health status with feedback on preventative health. I enjoy being able to bridge the gap between holistic and western medicine while providing a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which to heal. I am always looking to integrate new treatments and therapies into my practice and believe that continued learning is important for naturopathic medicine.

A few tools I like to use in my practice include acupuncture (traditional Chinese medicine), bloodwork analysis, lifestyle and nutritional counseling, diagnostic lab work, along with an in-depth knowledge of the body’s physiology and metabolic pathways to support my patients to better health. My practice also covers, but is not limited to:

  • digestive complaints and inflammatory bowel disease

  • osteoporosis

  • anxiety and depression

  • diabetes

  • obesity

  • food sensitivities

  • detox and inflammation

  • pain management (including chronic musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis, sciatica, and degenerative disk disease)

  • men's health

  • female hormone imbalances

  • elderly care

  • thyroid disorders

  • autoimmune conditions

  • respiratory problems

  • cold/flu prevention

I want my patients to take control of their own healing, to understand how powerful their minds and bodies really are, and how each organ and symptom is part of a larger system. Healing chronic and intractable ailments takes a certain level of sensitivity, which I’ve honed in order to treat stubborn conditions with gentle methods.
